It is so easy to get lost in “motherhood.” To sometimes feel overwhelmed with the never ending in your head check lists, the heaping piles of laundry, the pick-up and drop-off times, the appointments, the 9-5, the shopping, the cooking, the cleaning. With everything. All of it. Half the time I am a mess of a person somehow getting by.
I struggle with balance. The balance as a mother and fulfilling the needs of my boys, the balance as a wife and fulfilling the needs of my husband and the balance as simply a human being and fulfilling the needs of me. As one can can attest to, putting a lot of effort in one area leaves other areas lacking, unfulfilled even and at risk for upsetting a probably already teetering balance.
For me, my needs are those that usually come last and fulfilling the needs of me are usually what’s most always lacking. Husband is a close second though and the boys always come first.
My day begins around six in the morning (and that includes still waking up at night with our very poor sleeping tot) and it ends around nine pm. No large percentage of my day is for me really. I often go to work with wet hair and most days have to donate my breakfast to the 7 year old who remembers his iPad but not that he’ll be hungry the moment we are at the point of no return to retrieve his. I’ve had to forgo my workout time to make enough hours at work and I always feel forgetful, stressed and rushed.
But don’t get me wrong. I am in no way complaining. I love my life. My boys, my husband, my life. My chaos. I am grateful for all of it. What I am trying to get at is that as mothers, we often forget that taking time for ourselves helps with that “fulfilling the needs of me” balance and even if 24 hours seems impossible to fit in “me time”, you need to make but a few minutes each day, or each week just for yourself. It makes for a happier and better, mother, wife, friend and in general human.
The one thing I do each and every day is my makeup. I don’t wash my hair, but I do do my makeup- priorities right?! It may seem silly and maybe even a little vain, but it truly is my passion. It’s my creative outlet. I love watching youtube videos (late at night when everyone is sleeping) and recreating looks and even putting my own spin on them. I collect makeup like it doesn’t expire…..
Most days its a “quick get me out the door look” and others a “I had a while to be creative look.” Part of having great makeup though is having a bright and fresh canvas and that means taking care of both my skin and smile. Because of the melasma I developed from both my infertility treatments and pregnancy, I have been better at taking care of my skin than I have my smile.
And as if they knew this, Smile Brilliant reached out to me to see if I would be interested in trying out their whitening system. A professional quality at home teeth whitening system without needing to schedule another appointment?! Yes, please!
The process was actually super easy. Smile Brilliant sends you a kit with which you make your own molds with and mail back. Your custom whitening trays are then made from the molds and delivered back to you a few short weeks later. You then use a whitening gel and the trays from anywhere between 45 min and 3 hours. Also included is a desensitizing gel in case you are sensitive to whitening. I would pop mine in when I woke up and while I was getting ready (It is recommended you whiten at night, but I still had great results and it fit right into my hectic life) and doing my makeup for the day.
Results were a brighter/whiter smile!
Smile Brilliant is offering one of my readers/followers the opportunity to “fulfill the needs of me” and try out this entire system for FREE!
